Prime Minister National Day Rally

School life has been hectic and busy as usual but well as national day arrive, it gives us a break that everyone had been longing for. Besides national day parade celebration and the fireworks, another well-anticipated highlight of it will definitely be the national day rally that our very own Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. In my opinion, the main topic of the rally is not on how Director Jack Neo had criticize the government in increasing the ERP, neither it is the not-so-funny jokes cracked PM Lee but the issue of increasing baby bonus and also encouraging local women to get married at an earlier age and produce more babies to solve Singapore problem of having aging population as he had lunged right in to the controversial issue of encouraging Singaporeans to have more babies once again when he spoke at his National Day Rally this year.

This is the second time in four years that he has tackled the issue, the first being his inaugural Rally in 2004.
He announced a raft of measures that will cost the Government $700 million a year, bringing to $1.6 billion the total amount that it spends a year on promoting marriage and parenthood.
The measures include: more maternity leave for mothers, more tax incentives for having children, more subsidies for childcare, more leave for parents to care for a young child, and even subsidies for assisted reproduction techniques.

While Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng - who is in charge of population issues - will provide more details on the bulk of these measures at a press conference today, PM Lee in his Rally on Sunday night provided a few of his own.

I am very sure that Singapore locals are aware of this issue as The New Paper already had an article reagreding this issue. I remembered very clearly that it had interveiwed two very successful women in terms of financial ability and also social status. However, when it comes to love life and relationship, the only answer we see is how many years the relationship last but marriage is never being mentioned.

The two Government matchmaking outfits, the Social Development Unit and the Social Development Service, will be merged so as to increase synergies.

This new outfit will also do accreditation of private sector dating agencies to ensure that they are reputable.

At the family level, parents (whether father or mother) can now take paid leave of up to six days - up from two - to care for children under seven years old.

They can also take unpaid leave of up to a week to care for infants under two years old.

The Baby Bonus cash incentives for parents will be extended beyond the fifth child.

In his Rally speech, Mr Lee sketched the philosophy behind the changes. He had arrived at his conclusions after numerous discussion with focus groups and dating agencies, he said.

The systematic approach focused on four areas: getting people married; helping those married to have and bring up children; helping parents maintain a work-life balance; and finally, helping married couples to conceive.

A frequent theme undergirding many of his points was the need for gender roles to be more equalised. Couples, for instance, should share responsibilities for taking care of children, including changing baby nappies.

The Prime Minister proudly recalled how he had changed diapers for his children after he got married, and that he had done so without pricking any babies. 'If I can do it, that means anybody can do it,' he said, beaming.

I do salute the PM for spending so much effort for trying to encourage singapre women to get married however i don't think it is a wise decision to give bonus and encourage them to get married as looking at all the interviews, their main reason for not getting married is that they are always more capable then their sinagapore suitors. And if it is really true, the measures that PM Lee had taken had really been wasted.
After all these had been mentioned, i think that it is time that is time that i stop commenting on the governments policy as i do not ahve the courage and wisdom that local Director Jack Neo possess but i do hope that PM Lee will be successful in mangaing singapore to greater heights.

And so to end this, i shall remind everyone about Mr Lee's plea to Singaporeans on Sunday night, "Please put emphasis on marriage, on family: Make these your priorities, have a full and happy life."

Democracy creates stability in a socie

In my opinion, I think that democracy should be defined as “a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.” I think that getting a clear idea of what is going on is of absolute importance as in order to state a solid argument, we need to get aver clear idea of what democracy is about, at least something that convinces ourselves.

The next thing we need to do is probably nothing less than defining the term called stability too. I think that in order for a country to be stable, economic aspects is probably the most important aspect of all as a good and developed economy; it will provide people with higher standard of living which will satisfy people in the country and it will eliminate all revolts of protests against the government. Following up will be political aspects, to achieve political stability; democracy will be the key as the political parties will be fighting for the people’s votes through their policies and representatives, and not by warfare or corruption, this aspect should be stable.

In addition, democracy will also bring social stability and solve the social aspect as the people have a say in the policies of the country and also a right to choose who they want to represent them in the government. When the citizens and people are happy, social ability will be achieve and when people are less likely to revolt if they have a say in choosing the government and its policies.

When these two terms are put together, it will gives everyone an impression that democracy will make a society more stable as the people have an active say and part to play in running the country. People get to choose who they want to run the country and the policies that are carried out. Therefore, there would be less resentment or bad feelings toward the government.

However, I think that democracy may not be able to create stability in a way as democracy allows the “majority” to rule the country due to a voting system and there are times when the difference and margin between the majority and the minority are not very large and the latter ones may cause problems too and a very good example will be in Sri Lanka where the Sinhalese are the majority however the Tamils still contribute to a significant number of people in Sri Lanka. This would mean that there is still a high chance of revolt and riots if the minority feels that they are being neglected, as there are so many of them and they can make a big difference. Because of this, the government would have to then moderate and tread carefully or they might end up inciting riots and violence.

Hence, in conclusion I think that democracy will only create stability in certain countries although it works with most countries but when it is used on countries that do not have a clear margin between majority and minority it may cause problems to it instead.

Should we legalize underage sex?

Almost two months have past and school has already gotten onto its usual track, the busy and unstoppable schedule of work training and assignments. But amidst all these hectic and mundane schedule, i had picked up this little habit of blogging recently and this is going to be my first post.

To start off, i shall talk about an article that i have read online regarding a proposal to legalize underage sex while focusing on birth controls. Personally, i think that it is not a very good idea as introducing contraceptive methods is simply not enough as underage sex all that is protecting is trying to stop two consensual human beings from doing something by themselves, and responsibility of having to raise a child. If we just teach them birth controls method, it will not help as the teenagers may not apply it during sexual intercourse too. Banning underage sex will be a good idea as it will completely eliminate the chances of preventing underage pregnancy. In addition, we have to have limits to protect those who shouldn't be making life changing decisions until they are of legal age. Besides that, a teenager will not know what she is really doing during sexual intercourse. For example, a 15 years old girl may not be really enjoying the intimacy that she shared with her love ones during sexual intercourse but did it merely because of peer pressure. At the same time, if the girl is pregnant, her sexual partner may not want to bear responsibility for the child and when this happens, they may resort to abortion. There has been cases when abortion were induced by drugs rather than surgical procedures to prevent anyone from discovering the abortion. It is very dangerous as it brings much more harm to the female body than surgical procedures. Besides that, clinical research provides a growing body of scientific evidence that having an abortion can cause psychological harm to some women.

"Women who report negative after-effects from abortion know exactly what their problem is," observed psychologist Wanda Franz, Ph.D., in a March 1989 congressional hearing on the impact of abortion. "They report horrible nightmares of children calling them from trash cans, of body parts, and blood," Franz told the Congressional panel. Hence, i think that underage sex shall not be legalize to prevent unbearable consequences from happening.
